Pakistani Christian Family Attacked for Protecting Daughter from Kidnapping

On July 12, a group of armed men led by Muhammad Irfan attacked Aslam Masih and his family in Sadigabad, a Christian-majority neighborhood in southern Punjab. According to local reports, Masih’s family was attacked after they protected their 13-year-old daughter from being kidnapped.

Noreen Bibi, Masih’s wife, claimed that Irfan often harassed her 13-year-old daughter, Noor, and wanted to have physical relations with her.

He often teased and disturbed my daughter in the streets, but we always ignored.” Bibi told International Christian Concern (ICC). “Finally, Irfan forcibly entered into my house and intended to kidnap my daughter. However, we resisted. In response, he attacked and beat my entire family who got multiple injures.

My husband and others got injuries in the attack,” Bibi continued. “However, police have not registered the case against Irfan and medical staff have not provided medical aid to the injured.

Local supporters of Irfan have issued threats against Masih and his family. According to Bibi, they have threatened to burn down their house if they pursue legal action against Irfan and the other attackers.
